UPDATED ACTION PLAN

EVALUATION.

I started this project exploring how i could stimulate the senses, initially I wanted to create a piece of work that incorporated every sense, sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste. Due to the theme being so broad it was hard to envision a piece that wasn't too complicated. I started with sight; researching visuals that were stimulating. I achieved what I set out to create in my proposal because created a visual that stimulated the eyes and ears in a factual way, through research. The shirt was also useful for stimulating the sense of touch because it had to be worn and had connotations to flowers which stimulates the sense of smell. I have become better educated from researching the senses, and the artist John Korner who uses a range of mediums that entice and interact with the audience. I think I thoroughly explored how to stimulate the senses and how the chemicals in the brain work.

My project has changed due to my own capability. I found out through restrictions in presentation, that I wasn’t able to provide food for tasting which I had initially planned, however I think this created a more successful piece because it became more of a virtual simulation. My research into colour relationships strongly influenced the aesthetics of my piece due to how they affected the brain and senses. If I was to restart my project I think I would try to be more decisive about subject matter. Having a consistent person or object to experiment with would have given me more freedom to try new ideas. I think the most successful part of my project is the photoshoot of the shirt and mask because it creates a story linking to stimulating the senses and link in most of my research into one piece, whereas I think my other pieces have been very independent and only relate to one or two aspect of the senses. The least successful part of my project has been the painting of fingertips because I think I could have created a lot more with it, while I does represent the sense of touch, it doesn’t really stimulate any other sense and I don’t think it was as effective as the other pieces.

If I had more time I would have created a video using the character I created with the photoshoot. It would have been interesting to see how I could make her relate to nature, maybe making her move in a way that connoted leaves moving in the wind. Possibly putting her in situations that highly stimulate the senses whether it was a rave with a lot of lights and visuals. I think I organised myself very well however I didn’t follow through on it, due to unforeseen circumstances or events I didn’t consider. I think I may have also tried to push myself for more that I could achieve which meant I didn’t complete everything I wanted to, but I was being unrealistic to what was physically possible in the given time.
