misc. research week
camberwell exhibition
I was really attracted to the patterns created in this piece. they created a new depth in the piece and an almost surreal 3D view. i want to link these to psychedelics and visuals within film.
I found the idea of a painting installation really enticing. I loved the idea of co-ordinating colours and objects with the abstract painting, it helps amplify the atmosphere and create an immersive experience for the viewer.
similar to the painting installation i also was drawn to the video installation using warning signs. I liked this because it took something from the ordinary, that we see everyday and associate with attention, are now repeated over a small area almost creating an overwhelming sense of caution that can create the effect of cancelling out the warning since there are so many signs. The combined use of signs, bright colours and bubble wrap create a very alert and tense atmosphere with connotations to each other.
Tate gallery
On a visit to the Tate gallery and gathered photographs of pieces i found interesting or inspiring. I really liked the use of collages in some pieces, and vibrant colours in others. one commonality in most of the pieces are the abstraction or simplification of bodies, similar to the Tate visit i really loved the use of simplifying bodies to just suggestions of figures or abstracting them to create new versions of hands or feet which are such recognisable shapes that they become more interesting when variations of the real thing.
14.9.18 Tate Visit.
I visited the Tate Modern gallery, and documented the pieces i found that could later inspire pieces. I found that Matisse's backs were the most inspiring. I really liked the simplification of the back figure and seeing how the final abstract piece can still be identified as a back. In a dark room there was Rothko pieces lined up on the walls intentionally in low lighting. I liked the concept of manipulating the environment to create a specific experience of the painting. One continuity i really liked was the use of block colours, especially in Matisse's work, i found them striking and grabbed my attention. I want to use more blocks of colour in my future pieces, possibly not in the same style but as a concept. The simplicity is brought back with pieces using line drawing which i found intriguing as they suggested body parts but within simplifying them it creates an anonymity adn means anyone viewing can relate to it whether of themselves or someone else. I think this concept is very versatile and can definitely be used in my future work.
12.9.18
Over the course of the day I developed my ideas through researching artists and pieces relating to my task. I found pieces through instagram and modern art books i own, I found connections through hands so that the research all had a commonality.
